| Raising the Roof!A very successful fund raising concert 'Raising the Roof' was held at St Mary's Hospital chapel in Manchester.
An audience of 95 thoroughly enjoyed the excellent music provided by the Hard Times Orkestar and the Vivaldi Ensemble. Thank you very much to all the musicians for giving their time. The event has so far raised £725, with more to come. These funds will be used for one of our classroom building projects in central rural Nepal. | Feb 09 | Schools projects in Nepal Projects recently completed in Nepal include:
- providing furnishing for the nursery class and fencing to make the compound secure at Shanka Devi Primary School
- materials to complete classrooms at Surya Kiran School and Lacchmi Bal Bikas Nursery. This support was desperately needed in order to provide basic classroom space and furniture for the children attending the schools.

| Jan 09 | Sponsored Bike Ride and Walk 2008 We are extremely pleased to announce that our 2008 Bike Ride raised a grand total of £4500, the highest amount raised from this event to date!! This is due in part to one of our supporters gaining matched funding of £555 from his employer Swiss Re. This is a fantastic achievement thank you to all those involved. Our event this year will be on Saturday 27 June 2009, once again at Ferry Meadows, Peterborough, which offers a great venue for this event. | Jan 08 | New projects established in Nepal We have just returned from a fantastic trip to Nepal, where we were able to visit projects completed since our last visit, and approve new projects at many more schools. We were honoured to be able to attend opening ceremonies at Dibya Jhoti and Prithvi Schools. Further details of all these will be in our newsletter, due out soon.

Special thanks to Ferry Meadows Caravan Club site for letting us use their rally field for the event and 12 families made a weekend out of it by camping overnight. |

| Fenstanton Fund Raising event Fenstanton Village Church have set up a bikathon from 18th February - 8th April 2007. The aim is to cycle the number of miles between Fenstanton and Kathmandu (4530 miles) by exercise bike, and either be sponsored or pay 10p per mile for the privilege.
On Sun 11th March 11.00-1.00pm at Fenstanton Parish Church, we will be holding an open event for all the family. So get fit, come, cycle and learn about Nepal with slideshow, quizzes, crafts and more! If you cant join us, you can sponsor someone to cycle for you. | Cycling event raises £3800!! Congratulations to all involved in our Sponsored Bike Ride and Walk on 15th July and a big thank you to all those who sponsored us. We raised the fantastic total of £3800, which is the highest amount ever raised from this event by far!
Everyone enjoyed the lakes and forests of Ferry Meadows Country Park near Peterborough, where we have held the event for the past 10 years. The money raised will be used to build more desperately needed classrooms in government schools in central Nepal.

Tenth Sponsored Bike Ride and Walk Plans are being finalised for our annual Sponsored Bike Ride and Walk, which will be held on 15th July at Ferry Meadows, Peterborough. As this is the 10th time we have held this successful event, we are hoping it will be our best yet in terms of fund raising. We have a great group of people committed to being involved who are busy seeking sponsors.
The cyclists of all ages and quite a few nationalities will be cycling 10 miles and the walkers will do 5 miles. | New classrooms now in use We are very pleased to report that projects at the following schools were completed during the last financial year: Janta Jansankiar, Dibya Jhoti, Saraswati Sanskrit (all 2-classroom blocks), Prithibini (3-classroom block), Nepal Rastriya (fencing for compound) and Dibya Jhoti (tin for roofing).
The children in these schools are all benefiting from the new buildings - without the help of all our supporters and sponsors, we would not be able to carry out this valuable work.

| A School Nepali Day Special thanks to Sheila Bull for carrying out a Nepali Day at Ramsden Infants School, Barrow-in-Furness, and to this school for their very generous donation, which will be used to complete a classroom building project at Devchuli School, Rajahar.
The Year 2 children had been learning lots about Nepal prior to the day and had a super day with Sheila, building on what they had already learnt about Nepal and its culture.

Complete Projects! New Projects! On their recent visit to Nepal, Nara and Sue were able to review the projects that had been completed since their last visit and to establish new ones. They carried out official opening ceremonies at Janta School and Santi Srisana School. New classrooms were built at both these schools. Pupils, teachers and school committee members were extremely grateful for the help given by Children of Nepal we felt humbled by their welcome and thanks. | Most successful Bike Ride to date
 Our recent Sponsored Bike Ride and Walk raised £3000, which is the highest amount we have raised to date from this event. A big thank you to all those who took part and worked so hard to collect sponsor money. In total 23 people cycled, 15 walked and another 10 supported us at our base camp. On our return to Ferry Meadows, everyone enjoyed a delicious Bar-B-Q.

| Nepal Himalayan Festival, Manchester Children of Nepal had a constant stream of visitors to its exhibition stand at this Festival, made lots of new contacts and raised £328 from selling Nepalese goods and holding a small tombola.

| Nepali Festival returns to Manchester Children of Nepal is currently planning to have a display stand at the third Nepal Himalayan Festival, which is taking place on 5th and 6th June 2004 at the Town Hall, Manchester. The Festival will be a celebration of Nepalese culture, including dance, music, food, mountaineering, conservation, ecology and textiles. On our stand, we will be giving information about Children of Nepal and the work we do, and raising money by selling Nepalese crafts and other items. |

| More projects completed! Projects at Janta, Jakare and Dhurba Jhoti Schools have all been completed in recent months. These projects have provided new classrooms for Janta and Jakre Schools and a toilet block for Dhurba Jhoti School. All were desperately needed and the teachers and pupils are very appreciative of the help given by Children of Nepal. Further details will be in our next newsletter, which will be available soon. |

| Memorial to Norman Our project at Kalika School, in memory of our dear friend and supporter Norman Cracknell, has now been completed and an inscription stone bearing his name has been planned. This project provided a new building containing three classrooms for this large secondary school near to Narayanghat in central Nepal. Norman was the originator of our annual bike ride and walk, which has become the main fund raising event of our charity year. |

| Floods and Landslides Following the severe weather Nepal has been experiencing lately, we have had requests for help from Nepal for families badly affected by the severe monsoon rains. One hamlet had all the houses destroyed by flood waters and landslides.Children of Nepal will be providing emergency clothing for the children from the 12 families who managed to escape with only the clothes they had on.

With most of the money in from the Sponsored Bike Ride/Walk we are able to confirm that, thanks to the efforts of a large number of friends, sponsors and supporters, we have raised around £2400. | Huge Success! Our annual Sponsored Bike Ride/Walk took place once again at Ferry Meadows near Peterborough and was yet again, a runaway success. With a total of 26 intrepid fundraisers on foot or bike, the event raised in the region of £2100!! As well as fundraising, the event provided the pretext for an annual social get-together for many of our friends and supporters around the country which was enjoyed by everyone. | Jan '03 | Trip to Nepal Nara and Sue have just returned from Nepal where they have been visiting all our existing projects and setting up new projects. The trip went really well. We have agreed to give further help to schools we are already working with, as well as to support some schools we have not yet worked with. All the details of these projects are currently being put into a newsletter. This will be added to the website as soon as possible and copies will be sent to all those on our supporters list. |

As part One World Week, Children of Nepal were invited to give a slide show in Huntingdon. The purpose of this was to give others in the community a chance to find out more about the way of life of others in different parts of the world. Sue and Nara were very pleased to do this. The slide show was enjoyed by all those who attended and a collection at the end raised £70! Thank you to all those who supported this event.

| Aug '02 | Debbie's London Triathlon Special thanks go to our friend Debbie Kingston who raised £752 in sponsorship when she completed the London Triathlon in August. It was a fantastic achievement, not only to complete this gruelling race but also to raise so much sponsorship. In addition to this, BP have donated £700 in matched funding to give a total of £1452, raised for Children of Nepal by this event. Debbie had to swim 1.5km, then cycle 40km, followed by a run of 10km. She completed the whole race in 3 hours and 7 minutes!! Well done Debbie and thank you to Debbie and all those who sponsored her.

| Aug '02 | A Fantastic Success The Children of Nepal annual Sponsored Cycle Ride and Walk was, as usual, a runaway success. The weather stayed fine, apart from a quick, refreshing shower. All our walkers and cyclists completed the course, though not without a few running repairs! Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a picnic in the sunshine at our base camp, kindly provided by Marlene Cracknell. The event was a great success for the children of Nepal also. We appear set to raise a final total of over £1800, yet again exceeding last year's total. A big THANK YOU to everyone who took part, sponsored our riders and walkers and to those who lent their support and encouragement, in any way.

| June 02 | A Special Annual Bike Ride
We have now set a date for our annual Sponsored Bike Ride and Walk, which will be held on 20th July, Ferry Meadows, Peterborough. Following the very sad death of Norman Cracknell, who initiated this event for us and who has hosted all five previous Bike Rides, we will be doing this year's ride in his memory. The cyclists will complete a 10 mile circuit, with the walkers doing 5 miles. If anyone would be prepared to sponsor us, we would really appreciate it. Anyone else who wishes to take part in the event, can mail us for further details. |

The children, that are being sponsored via Children if Nepal, have just started their new school year. There are currently eight children being funded by generous sponsors via Children of Nepal, with a further two being arranged.

| Feb 02 | Bricks for Learning!
We now have news of progress at the school at Hardi. Because Hardi is away
from the road, the bricks for the building
work are being made on site at Hardi. The brick making is now almost complete
and work will begin shortly on the construction.Another school in Rajahar
has approached us to ask for help with building a well and a toilet block. We are
looking into this and the school are preparing an estimate for us. |

The classroom block at Bhagyadaya School is nearing completion. The school
at the Bhote-Majhi community in Rajahar is going well. News of this project has
spread and another Bhote-Majhi community further down the Narayani River has
approached us to ask for similar support with setting up some teaching in basic
Nepali for their children. Therefore, we are currently investigating how we will be able to help. |

The Church of the Ascension in Warrington (UK) have recently contacted us to say that they wish to
raise money for us in future and have agreed to donate £200 each year, for
the next five years! This is a very generous commitment and we are extremely grateful
for their ongoing support. |

| We have just given the go ahead for a further project
to start in a small village called Hardi, near Narayanghat. Access to this village is by
river crossing and then on foot as there is no road access. |

| Dec 01 | Sue and Nara returned from Nepal after
setting up further projects in schools in central Nepal. New projects were established
at Saraswati, Bhagyadaya and Lachhmi Schools and at the Rajahar Community. They
also met up with the four children whose education is being sponsored, and identified
four further children who would benefit from help.

| 10.07.01 | The sponsored cycle ride (and walk) was successfully
completed by all participants. Afterwards everyone relaxed with a barbecue and a
chat and enjoyed a well-earned rest. Final figures are not yet available but the total
raised looks to be around £1400! Another successful enterprise which will enhance the
welfare of the children in Nepal, immeasurably. |
